Introducing Karm Marg
Karm Marg is an Indian non-governmental organization committed to the cause of supporting disadvantaged children and young adults. Set in the outskirts of New Delhi, Karm Marg runs a home, Karm Gaon, which provides a loving space for such children to live, study, work and play together in.
Karm Marg, literally meaning the Path of Work & Action, started in February 1997. As the name suggests, the driving force behind Karm Marg’s functioning has been the desire to be self-sustaining. The desire to stand firmly on its own ground without regular dependence on external support. This extends not just to our internal functioning, but also the people we support as an organization.
The focus groups for Karm Marg are disadvantaged children, young adults and economically backward rural women from villages near the campus. Both these groups receive vocational training before joining the production process. Eventually the products made by these people are sold under the brand Jugaad. It’s worth noting that most of the Jugaad products utilize as much recycled and reused raw material as possible.
In addition, Karm Marg imparts training in mainstream education, medical care, counseling, health and hygiene advocacy, sports, visual & performing arts – all of which we believe are critical to the holistic growth of young adults.
However, the primary activity of Karm Marg has been the home for children. At the home live children and youth who come from such difficult social circumstances that their need for a safe shelter is Urgent and Desperate.
Over the last 12 years, Karm Marg has acquired through its work experience a set of key skills in the area of making products out of waste and running income generation programs for the self-sustenance of NGOs and self-help groups. As a result karm Marg is considered a specialist in this field. In an attempt to share these, Karm Marg conducts on-demand workshops with other groups working on similar focus areas and shares with them these skills. These workshops are uniquely designed for the needs of the group we are working with.
