Counseling & Health Care

Counseling:

The trauma of life on the street or an abusive family forces the childhood out of a child quite rapidly and drastically. Even as these children slowly mellow down to a cool simmer at Karm Marg, the scars of the past on their memories are quite hard to completely erase, and this affects their present ... often negatively. All kids who show such signs are given one-to-one counseling at the home, and in some more serious cases, they are sent out to specialist psychiatrists.

Health Care:

A critical part of our well-being is being healthy and fit. To ensure this there are routine medical check-ups at the Home. Our Family doctor, Dr. Raman Kakkar, attends to any children with health complaints. In cases that he deems necessary, children are taken to specialized clinics or hospitals as per his referral. In case of life threatening illnesses, children are admitted in government or private hospitals and given full treatment.

Periodically, health awareness workshops and sessions are organized for the children and young adults at home and for rural women and teenagers. The topics vary vastly, ranging from HIV, AIDS and Tuberculosis to personal hygiene and sex education.

Despite all these attempts, we are saddened to inform you that one of our family members, Isha, an 18 year old girl, succumbed to multiple drug resistant Tuberculosis after being sick for over two years, despite constant attention, medication and several months of hospitalization.

She is missed dearly, and has left a painful void at the home that is only partially filled by fond memories of her.
