Vocational Training & Income Generation
Sugandh - Vocational Training Project:
Children living in Karm Gaon receive vocational training skills under this programme. These skills are more like life-skills as they help the children survive in the ‘real world' when they grow up and have to move out of Karm Marg. The current programmes under this are:
1) Paper craft
2) Stitching
3) Candle-making
4) Carpentry
5) Metal-work
6) Silk-screen Printing
7) Clay modeling & paper machie
Jugaad - Income Generation Project
At the heart of Karm Marg's functioning has always been the idea of empowering these children with skills that utilize the raw materials easily available in their surroundings to create products that are commercially viable and become a way of sustaining the organization's financial needs. This approach to creating immediate solutions from insufficient resources, high ingenuity, and a need for survival at its root, we call ‘Jugaad'. The vast range of hand crafted and eco friendly products created at KM follow the same synergy and are hence marketed under the brand name of ‘Jugaad'.
While the production and supervision of the products is largely taken care of by the children, the marketing is taken care of by the senior members of the Karm Marg team. For the last couple of years women from the surrounding villages have also been involved in the production of a large variety of products. The products range from carry bags made from disposed newspaper to cloth bags made from textile scrap; from handcrafted eco-friendly stationery to wood and metal crafted items.
